Ho Chi Minh City Financial Tower, often called the “rooftop” of the city, rises 262 meters with 68 floors. In particular, the observatory located on the 49th floor offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the winding Mekong River. Located in the heart of District 1, the tower is invested and built by Pingming Import-Export and Production Company. Famous American architect Carlos Zapata was inspired by the shape of the lotus flower – a symbol of Vietnamese culture – to design the building.

Such iconic buildings are not only architectural highlights, but also become a measure of the economic development of a city or country. The financial tower in Ho Chi Minh City seems to be sending a message that Vietnam not only possesses beautiful landscapes, but is also on the path of strong economic development. However, amidst the elegant setting of 19th-century French colonial architecture, this modern building with its somewhat “arrogant” appearance still makes some people feel that it does not really fit in, and that building a high-rise in the center may go against the principle of historical preservation.

The 49th floor observatory has its own entrance where visitors can purchase tickets and go straight up by elevator. While the souvenirs are a bit pricey, using the high powered telescope is completely free, offering an impressive experience of exploring the city from above.
